Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Scope

This policy applies to large language models (LLMs), generative AI applications, conversational AI systems, image generation tools, code generation systems, and other artificial intelligence technologies used during the research and publication process.

When used responsibly, AI tools may improve research productivity and editorial efficiency. However, inappropriate or unverified use may result in:

• Factual inaccuracies
• Fabricated references or citations
• Plagiarism
• Breaches of confidentiality
• Compromised research integrity

Authors' Responsibilities

Authors are expected to:

• Transparently disclose the use of AI tools where appropriate.
• Identify the AI tool used, its purpose, and the human verification process applied.
• Refrain from listing AI systems as authors.
• Accept full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, ethical integrity, and overall content of the manuscript.
• Verify AI-generated material, check all references, and prevent any form of publication misconduct.

Reviewers' Responsibilities

• Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts under review.
• Refrain from uploading confidential manuscript content to third-party AI systems that do not provide appropriate safeguards for confidentiality.
• Not rely on AI-generated evaluations as a substitute for their own independent scientific assessment.
• Inform the editor if they suspect inappropriate or undisclosed use of AI.

Editors' Responsibilities

Editors are expected to:

• Protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and peer-review materials.
• Make editorial decisions solely on the basis of independent human judgment and scientific evaluation.
• Use AI tools only for technical or administrative purposes that do not compromise confidentiality or research integrity.
• Investigate suspected inappropriate use of AI in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.

The Emergency Medicine Physicians Association of Türkiye is committed to promoting the ethical, transparent, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in scholarly publishing. The Association supports innovation while safeguarding research integrity and publication ethics and will periodically review this policy in line with evolving international guidance.
