Research Ethics Policy

Research Involving Human Participants

All research involving human participants must be conducted in accordance with internationally accepted ethical standards, particularly Declaration of Helsinki. Accordingly;

• Ethics committee approval must be obtained before the study begins, and the name of the committee, approval number, and approval date must be clearly stated in the Methods section of the manuscript.
• Informed consent must be obtained from all participants, covering both participation in the study and the publication of identifiable information, including photographs and case details.
• Written consent must be obtained from a parent or legal guardian for participants under the age of 18.
• When vulnerable populations, such as psychiatric patients, prisoners, or migrants, are included, voluntary participation must be ensured and the ethical justification clearly stated.
• Participant privacy and confidentiality must be protected throughout the research process. Identifiable information may only be published with explicit consent and appropriate justification.

Research Involving Animals

Research involving animals must be conducted in full compliance with ethical principles.

• Studies must receive approval from an authorized animal ethics committee, and approval details must be reported in the manuscript.
• The principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) should be observed.
• International standards, including the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and EU Directive 2010/63/EU, should be followed.
• Experimental procedures, housing conditions, animal welfare measures, and statistical methods should be reported in accordance with the ARRIVE guidelines.

Clinical Trial Registration

The Association supports the prospective registration of clinical studies in publicly accessible trial registries, such as ClinicalTrials.gov or the EU Clinical Trials Register, to promote transparency. Registration numbers are expected to be provided in the manuscript, preferably in the abstract. Authors should provide a justified explanation for retrospective registration. Reporting clinical trials in accordance with the CONSORT guidelines is encouraged.

Inclusive and Respectful Language

The journals published under the auspices of the Association expect all manuscripts to use respectful, impartial, and inclusive language. Authors are encouraged to use appropriate terminology when referring to characteristics such as sex, gender, age, ethnicity, disability, and socioeconomic status. The SAGER Guidelines are recommended as a reference for reporting sex and gender.

Ethical Misconduct and Investigation

Cases involving plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, unethical research practices, or failure to obtain required ethical approvals are evaluated in accordance with COPE guidance. Where appropriate, the following actions may be taken:

Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers

Editors and reviewers are responsible for evaluating submitted manuscripts for compliance with ethical standards. Additional documentation or clarification may be requested when necessary. All editorial processes are conducted in accordance with the principles of impartiality, confidentiality, and scientific integrity.

The Emergency Medicine Physicians Association of Türkiye is committed to promoting scientific publishing that respects human and animal rights and adheres to ethical principles. This policy establishes the minimum ethical standards for research and publication activities carried out in the journals published under the auspices of the Association.
